Return to player is a long-run average
A return of 96% does not mean you get RM96 back from RM100 in a session. It is an average over a very large number of spins. In a single session anything can happen, and the house edge — the remaining 4% in this example — applies to every ringgit bet, including winnings you bet again. Some games exist in several versions with different returns, which is why the info panel of the game you open matters more than any figure quoted elsewhere.
Volatility and your budget
High-volatility slots can go a long time without meaningful wins, then pay a lot. Low-volatility slots pay small amounts often. Neither is better; they suit different budgets. With a small budget, a high-volatility game can end a session quickly.
